So maybe it’s a few weeks late but better late than never right? I guess I should tell that to the handful of people who’s Christmas cards are still sitting in my car.
Merry Christmas Family and Friends!
This last year can be summed up in a four letter word….BUSY!
Seth spent the better part of the year replacing the front porch, removing the back deck (rebuild next spring), installing new siding and replacing all of our windows and doors. We opted to hire out the painting after months of weekends filled with nothing but working on the house. January will mark his 9th year with BRB contractors and he continues to excel as a Project Manager.
While the home projects left little time for golf or hunting this year there was a lot of extra time spent as “dada”. It’s been so fun to watch Seth continue to grow in his role as dad and watch the relationship between him and Jackson flourish. Watching them play together in the evenings and chase each other around on the floor is highly entertaining and makes my heart happy. I have now been replaced at bedtime as Jackson wants daddy to be the one to rock him (after I nurse) and then lay him down. It’s definitely a bittersweet feeling, but I love the bond they are developing and a couple minutes to myself is always appreciated.
I spent the better part of the year figuring out this whole mom gig (and tearing off siding). I have heard it said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, but here I am picking up the same 1000 toys over and over again. In all seriousness though, I literally have the best job ever. A husband that supports me staying home to raise and care for our little toy tornado has made me one lucky wife and momma!
During the last half of the year I did some freelance design and photography for some family members (thanks – Matt, Aunt Mary, Elizabeth and Cecilia!) and the work seemed to snowball from there. I’ve been doing family/kid/landscape photo sessions, as well as invitation or event design work during nap time and have really enjoyed it and kept busy. So, shameless plug, if you need any photography or design work done in the new year, I’m your gal!
Jackson celebrated his 1st birthday at the end of September with a LumberJACK bash that, if we’re being honest, was more of a chance for me to have a Pinterest party since he won’t remember it anyway. It was an awesome day though with a pancake brunch (one of his favorite foods after pizza) and lots of friends and family. The love you all share with Jackson is so appreciated and such a blessing to us!
We have stayed busy with weekly story time at the library, Parents as Teachers visits, pool time, park swings and visits to the grandparents. Jackson has learned a few words in sign language including “milk” (his personal favorite), “all done” and “money money” (dad taught him that one). While he was an early crawler he decided to take his time with walking and has only recently began to walk more than crawl. His vocabulary includes the ever popular “dada”, “mama”, “dah” (dog), “no no no” as well as the more creative, “ahhhhhhh” (water) and “trahtor” (tractor). Playing outside on his push car while watching Seth and I work on the house this year seemed to entertain him quite a bit, as well as develop an advanced palate of dirt, sticks and leaves. He hates loud noises, being told no and any toy that can move on its own which promptly elicits a pouty lip and a loud wail. The nail gun was a lot of fun for him to be around while working on the house (sarcasm) and his moving toys have helped our Christmas tree stay fully decorated (win).
Overall this year was a busy one, but the best one yet. God has blessed us immensely with a happy healthy family and we constantly remind ourselves to not take it for granted. While we had to wait longer than we would have liked to become parents it was all in HIS time and everyday with Jackson is a reminder that God knew exactly what he was doing.
Blessings to all of you this Christmas and New Year!!
